Benefits of using Credit vs. Debit when using your Valley State Bank Visa® Check Card
When using your card for purchases with merchants, you should sign the receipt to qualify for the Visa® security program that will help prevent, detect and resolve fraud. You also have Zero-Liability when you use your card as a "Credit" purchase, if your card is ever lost or stolen.
How do you sign for your card when there is a PIN pad or terminal? By pressing credit on the keypad, you will be able to sign a receipt. If you are prompted for a PIN when you slide your card, press cancel on the keypad to be able to sign or tell the cashier you want to sign for your purchase.
Why should you press Credit vs. Debit? Your transaction will be routed through the Visa® network, ensuring you the extra security protections of a Visa® transaction. However, your Visa® Check Card still works like a debit card, not a credit card. Whether you choose debit or credit, the money is still coming directly out of your checking account.
